
Turbo Power Systems designs and manufactures high performance electric motors and generators, drives and power electronics. Its origins can be traced back to 1986 at Imperial College in London. The company has grown and developed at such a rate as to be launched and listed on the London Stock Exchange in July 2000 and on the Toronto Stock Exchange in August 2000.
The strategic acquisition of the Gateshead Power Electronics company, I~Power, took place in 2001 to support TGC's Distributed Generation activities. This is the Design and Manufacturing Centre for Power Electronics and is a key supplier to the Rail market for equipment including auxiliary converters and battery chargers as well as supplying motor drives into the Aerospace market for the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner and a number of high performance motor drives for OEM customers in the Industrial market.
Recent growth in sales and turnover have seen the North East Plant have to move from its base in Felling to a much larger purpose designed site on the Team Valley.
