An attractive opportunity for an experienced senior level civil engineering estimator within MGL Group, widely recognised as a successful privately owned group of companies delivering a range of services throughout the construction and demolition industries, largely operating throughout the North East, with additional market presence in Yorkshire and Cumbria.

This is one of three key senior level appointments for the Group, recruiting them concurrently as it transitions into its next phase of growth.

Company
Formed in 1972, the Group comprises four companies MGL Demolition, Rainton Construction, Tynedale Roadstone and recently formed MGL Cable Services. Principally through MGL and Rainton the group delivers a wide spectrum of construction disciplines being demolition, civil engineering, road construction, asbestos removal, building and bulk earthworks. In addition to this it also operates two asphalt production facilities and carries out property development.

From 2015 through to 2017, the group went through a period of rapid growth with turnover increasing from £39m to £66m followed by a year of consolidation in 2018 of £66.5m (together with a proportional increase in operating profit and a sustained healthy cash position) due to the successful delivery of a number of schemes for new and existing clients.

The Group enjoys a loyal, long-serving workforce and has reaped the rewards of its fluid, reactionary approach within the market and its client focused perspective.  It is well positioned for its next phase of development and is taking control of succession planning due to some pending retirements, therefore looking to appoint three key senior roles as part of the operational management team to support the Chief Executive and Board through this transitional phase, and in driving and facilitating future growth in line with a framework of targets and objectives.

Role
This role, Managing  Estimator/Senior estimator, is a role for an experienced senior civil engineering estimator ideally with expertise in infrastructure and heavy civil engineering including but not limited to drainage, reinforced concrete structures and walls, and groundworks, although applicants with more multi disciplinary construction backgrounds will be considered if the experience is principally civil engineering.

Reporting to the Group Commercial Director, the role plays a critical part of any bid. The Estimating Manager will, necessarily, have strong, constructive relationships with the planning, design, commercial and operations teams in order to assimilate effectively the appropriate information and considerations for the needs of each bid.

The Estimating Manager role within MGL is dynamic and commercial, an ideal opportunity for an individual with a sound understanding of civil engineering and risk.  This role requires someone who understands perspective on risk and opportunity.

In addition, as the Group considers possibly moving towards a shared group-wide estimating function, the Managing Estimator would play a key role in the integration of civil engineering with the wider picture of the rest of the Group’s estimating activities.

Experience Required
The successful applicant will already possess experience within a senior estimating role, ideally within principle or large regional civil engineering Contractor environments, and will be able to think independently and anticipate and find solutions to problems.  Candidates will be expected to demonstrate how they have contributed to successful bids; it is important that they are above all an estimator and not, for example, a bid manager who has had some involvement with the estimating elements of a bid.

Remuneration
Basic salary, company car, holiday allowance and full benefits package to be discussed upon application.
